The importance of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
Roles and responsibilities
Regulatory framework
Healthcare acquired infections
The chain of infection
The principles of Standard Infection Prevention and Control Precautions (SIPCs)
have knowledge of and demonstrate the standard infection prevention and control precautions relevant to their role which may include:

  • Hand Hygiene
  • Respiratory and Cough Hygiene
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Safe Management of the Care Environment
  • Safe Management of Care Equipment.
  • Safe Management of Health and Care Linen
  • Safe Management of Blood and Body Fluid Spillages
  • Safe Disposal of Waste (including sharps)
  • Occupational Safety/Managing Prevention of Exposure (including sharps)

Awareness of the National action plan for antimicrobial resistance
Aseptic non touch technique
Recognise and act when their personal fitness to work may pose a risk of infection to others.
